complacency

We’d rather be distracted than informed.
Entertained opposed to educated.
We have a congress full of millionaires, yet we call them representative.
What we consider news isn’t even obligated to be true ( It must only sell ad time.)
The food we eat doesn’t even have to be labeled imitation.
We are servants with comfortable yokes and television screens.
Enslaved by a well-marketed pile of debt.
You can’t quit your job, you need the health care.
You need that car, that phone, those channels
You need that Achievement: The stars won’t collect themselves.
Thinking, reading, questions have been stigmatized
As the bastard children of an overpriced education.
We’ve stopped reaching for the stars, our dreams sit in the hangar
Because now, freedom is only a spelling word
