In a variety of past lives, I’ve been a chicken farmer, a passable writer and horrid poet. I’ve been a programmer, a Federal Consultant, a Google Intern, and Georgetown MBA. Most recently, I find myself in the San Francisco area growing and scaling some amazing cloud and security companies.
This site, like myself, is a continual work-in-progress that has survived in some form since Geocities was first giving away hosting. It contains writings all the way from junior high, some graphic designs, and some thoughts I felt were worth sharing.
The Upside Down Tree
So, whats with the tree? Not very subtle…
The tree has slowly developed and evolved with this website. As I tinkered with web development, this site has been called many things. I started with ‘Define Normal’. In my teenage years, when I thought myself wise, I tried ‘Obscure Wisdom’ (The logo was horrible). Finally, when I bought a domain name, I settled on ‘Something Subtle’. I found this poetic little tree and enjoyed the tranquility and simplicity it brought as a logo.
Back then, the tree was “right-side-up”. It was simple and obvious, but it has since grown beyond that. I feel it represents new perspectives, new questions, and the manners of thinking that most people find uncomfortable. It’s rooted in the clouds where you are unlikely to expect a tree. From there though, it can then grow to untold heights and potentials.
And heck, if you don’t like that reasoning and feel the tree is still not very subtle, I am also a huge fan of irony.
